Most people like to make New Year’s Resolutions.
Not me.
I don’t think I’ve ever made one that I’ve actually stuck with for more than a day.
So, I thought I’d come up with a different kind of resolution. One that people might actually stick with.
It seems to me that most people come up with resolutions that serve themselves: lose weight, read more, relax more, get a new job, quit a bad habit, get out of debt, etc.
None of those things are bad, it’s just that we usually have ourselves in mind. Again, not a bad thing, but, eventually we just kinda give up on ourselves.
Instead, why not come up with resolutions for Valentine’s Day (Yeah, it’s a little early, but this will give you time to think of something before the big day). Resolutions that you do out of love for others. A resolution that you’re more willing to follow through with because of your love for someone else.
To get you started, here are a few ideas:
- Lose weight, but lose the weight because you know your spouse would be appreciative and be more physically attracted. Or because it would mean you’re their for your family or on the earth longer to serve God longer.
- Resolve to serve others more or in a new way.
- Resolve to spend more time in prayer.
- Resolve to spend more time worshiping.
- Spend more time reading the Bible.
- Give more time, money, talent, or anything you have a wealth of.
- Mentor someone.
- Spend time with others.
- Quit a habit because it will save your family money.
- Get a different job because you can use it in some way to serve more people.
You get the idea.
Overall, you’re just looking for ways to bless others.
Instead of making resolutions that only benefit you, make resolutions that benefit others out of your love for them.
If you end up doing this, please, please let me know what you did.
