What You Can Learn About a Balanced Life From the Segway Scooter

The Segway scooter has the ability to balance itself.  On two wheels.

Most people aren’t amazed by this, but it literally stands without support and simply balances.

But that’s the beauty of the Segway.  It’s always balancing.  And that brings up a question.

How?

Maybe you already know, but it has gyroscopes to keep it balanced.  You know, the same gyroscope type of toy you probably played with as a child.  It has several of those inside it.  A gyroscope can spin and yet stay balanced.  It’s constantly moving yet is stationary.

They got the idea from you, well, humans anyway.  If you are walking down the sidewalk and stop while moving forward, you’ll probably still have one leg up in the air, and since you’re moving forward the other leg won’t be enough to keep you standing up.  You’ll fall over.

Try it sometime, get up and walk across the room and just stop yourself at any random point.  You’ll most likely fall over.  And that’s why the Segway stays balanced.

It uses it’s unbalanced-ness to keep moving forward or backward or to the side.  In the exact same way humans do.  We’re constantly unbalanced, but we take advantage of it and keep moving forward or adjust or path to use that momentum.

If only we could do the same in our life.  Life is never perfectly balanced.

But, could we instead use that unbalanced nature to keep us moving forward or turn to the side, or move backward?   Nothing says that just because you’re unbalanced it means that you have to fall on your face.

If you meet with success, use that forward momentum.

If you meet with failure, use it to adjust your path and try again.

If you seem to be stuck in neutral, maybe you just need to wait before choosing a direction.

When we’re unbalanced we feel like we might fall over, but use it instead to keep you moving on your way.
